Your world-famous Bushcraft Knife was designed by Ray Mears.  It was made by Wilkinson Sword at their specialist sword-making division, which produced swords and knives for the UK Ministry of Defence for supply to the Armed Forces.  This same factory made the swords for the Household Cavalry.  Sadly, in 2005, MOD awarded the contract overseas and the factory was forced to close.  Twelve skilled craftsmen lost their jobs and another piece of British manufacturing history disappeared.  When the factory closed, production of this knife ceased.  This is your rare opportunity to obtain what must be the highest acclaimed knife in Bushcraft, the Ray Mears knife!

BACKGROUND

We had one batch of 6 Ray Mears’ Wilkinson Sword Bushcraft Knife Blades that had no handles fitted.  After 4 years of storage without oiling, these incredibly rare blades bore some patches of light surface rust.  The blades were passed to a respected British knife maker, who painstakingly cleaned and restored each blade.  Beautiful handle slabs were hand-sculpted from a variety of stocks, and the result was 6 unique Ray Mears Wilkinson Sword Bushcraft Knives!

These are fabulous pieces of craftsmanship.  They will take pride of place in any collection.  More importantly, they will fit a hand like a glove, ready for everything the outdoors can throw at them.

In this case - following the restoration - both logos are faded, or there remains some patina on the blade.  Please remember that this highly sought after Ray Mears Knife has been restored from poor condition into a beautiful piece of artisanship.  Those few individuals that examine their Knives with a magnifying glass and micrometer, and are expecting 100% pristine condition all round, are asked not to buy from us.

RAY MEARS BUSHCRAFT KNIFE – DESCRIPTION

Your Bushcraft knife has gained a huge following, not only because it is the favoured knife of the world-famous survival and bushcraft expert Ray Mears, but mainly because it is an excellent cutting tool.

Your Ray Mears Bushcraft knife has been fitted with Sambar Stag Antler Handle Slabs, secured with contrasting Copper Loveless Handle Rivets and Lanyard Tube.

It sharpens very well using water stones, it is extremely strong with a full-length tang, and is a good length for bushcraft wood carving.  It splits wood easily when used with a batten.

It has good handle symmetry, feels most comfortable in the hand, and will not rub or chafe your skin, even after extended use.

The blade is made of 01 high carbon tool steel, which is resilient, very tough, and – unlike other steels used in cheaper knives - easy to sharpen outdoors.  Crucially for bushcraft use, the blade has good hardness, good toughness, and robust wear resistance.

RAY MEARS WOODLORE NECK SHEATH – DESCRIPTION

This hand-stitched leather Neck Sheath has a pocket to house the Ray Mears Fire Stick (included).  This sheath fits the Ray Mears Bushcraft knife formerly made by Wilkinson Sword.  It is in very good coindition.

The Sheath is designed to be slung from the neck, using a cord (not included) threaded through the slot between the Fire Stick pocket and the Sheath body.

This Ray Mears Woodlore Neck Sheath has a new RRP of £45 GBP.  However, it is included in this Listing with your Ray Mears Bushcraft knife.

RAY MEARS FIRE STICK – DESCRIPTION

This Woodlore Fire Stick comes with a metal striker, and when scraped, produces bright, white sparks to light your tinder.  Its handle is embossed with the Ray Mears Logo.

Regardless of the weather, your Ray Mears Fire Stick is a dependable fire-making tool, and fits in your pocket, or in sheaths with a holder for a Fire Stick.
