RAY MEARS/ALAN WOOD WOODLORE KNIFE – DESCRIPTION
Your Woodlore knife has gained a huge following, not only because it is the favoured knife of the world-famous survival and bushcraft expert Ray Mears, but mainly because it is an excellent cutting tool.
The waiting list for this knife is now closed and the Knife has been withdrawn from the market.
The first thing that strikes you about your Woodlore knife is its robust quality. It has a slightly wider palm swell than the Wilkinson Sword version, and is a little heavier.
Your Ray Mears Woodlore knife is expertly crafted from 01 high carbon tool steel, which is strong, sharpens to a very fine edge, and has a full tang sculpted scale handle in bird’s eye maple. The blade is 11cm long, as is the handle.
It sharpens very well using water stones, it is extremely strong with a full-length tang, and is a good length for bushcraft wood carving. It splits wood easily when used with a batten.
It has superb handle symmetry, feels comfortable in the hand, and will not rub or chafe your skin, even after extended use.
The blade is made of 01 high carbon tool steel, which is resilient, very tough, and – unlike other steels used in cheaper knives - easy to sharpen outdoors. Crucially for bushcraft use, the blade has good hardness, good toughness, and robust wear resistance.
A Woodlore is of the highest interest to collectors. It is also the supreme ‘do the job’ bushcraft tool for use in the field.
