This is a kit of Wilkinson Sword spare parts, to enable you to build your own Dartmoor Knife CSK185 with a Ground Blade.  It contains the following components:

1.         One x Dartmoor Knife Ground Blade (normally £59.95)

2.         One x Fingerguard (normally £27.95)

3.         One x Handle (normally £11.95)

4.         One x Locking Pommel Nut (normally £27.95)

5.         One x Lanyard Rivet (normally £8.95)

6.         One x Scabbard (normally £11.95)

7.         One x Belt Hanger with fitted Shock Cord (normally £11.95)

8.         One x Empty Survival Kit Tube (normally £7.95)

9.         One x Instruction Booklet (without Booklet Sleeve) (normally £9.95 when sold with booklet sleeve)

Normally, your total for these parts would be £178.55.  Buy as a kit for £149 and save £29.55!

NOTES

The ground blade is the same as on the finished knives.  It is sharp, but – as with any new knife - will require further sharpening for use in the field.

The fixing of the fingerguard to the blade would need to be done by a competent person with access to the requisite equipments.  The process used by Wilkinson Sword was as follows:  The fingerguard and blade/tang were both drilled through twice.  The fingerguard was pinned to the tang with 2 x 23mm pins.  The surfaces of the fingerguard were welded over and ground, to conceal the heads of the pins.  The fingerguard was then polished and linished.  This may all be done by a competent metal engineer.

An alternative method was suggested to us by a former Wilkinson Sword staff member.  He suggested that the fingerguard could be glued to the blade/tang, using methacrylate adhesive.

In addition, one eBayer bought the knife components from us and used standard metal glue to fix the fingerguard to the tang.

However, we cannot recommend these latter 2 methods, as we have not tried them.

If you would like a ground blade with fingerguard attached, we have some unfinished versions in our eBay Shop.  The fingerguard is securely fitted, but the welds require grinding flat and the fingerguard may bear the odd nick or flaw.

The Handle will come assembled with Locking Pommel Nut and Lanyard Rivet both fitted for you.  The Belt Hanger will come with Shock Cord fitted for right hand use.  If you want your Shock Cord fitted for left hand use, please let us know.
